Mother's Day!

Well, it was Mother's Day yesterday and so, late in the day I call up my Mom to wish her a happy Mother's Day! So we're chatting and I ask if she had wished Grandma a Happy Mother's Day yet? My Mom replies: Oh, it's not Mother's Day in Jerusalem. Only here. Mother's Day is the first day of spring, March 21st, over there.

Silence on my side.

Then: "So I forgot your Mother's Day this year?" I ask.

"No honey! It's all one and the same. How's Debbie?"

That's my Mom! But Let's think about that for a second. Mother's Day as the first day of Spring vs. Mother's Day as the first Sunday in May? Hmmmm. You know, sometimes, the old school way is just better. The first day of Spring is just so much more symbolic and poetic somehow. It represents motherhood in an elegant and subtle way (well, maybe not so subtle). It was just cool.

Anyway, to all you Moms out there, new and not so new (that's you Jennifer, Lori and Patty), I want to wish you all a Happy Mother's Day!
